Online DVD Rental Companies
There are now a number of new companies that are offering online DVD
rental by mail services.
These sites charge a subscription of around £9.99 per month, for which
you are allowed to have many DVDs in your possession at any one time.
The DVDs you are sent are the ones you have requested on your
"wishlist". As soon as you return a DVD you are sent the next one from
your "wishlist".
You can keep the DVDs as long as your like and
there are no late fees or postage charges. The sites have a far larger range of DVDs than your local video store and if
you end up watching 3 DVDs a week then
the average price of renting a DVD ends up being less than £0.99
Free Trials = Free DVDs
Online Rental Websites are competing for your business and are currently offering free
trials of between 1 and 4 weeks. What this means that if you were to take advantage
of each free trial you could be renting DVDs free for the next 3 months. If
you take full advantage of the free trials and watch an average 3 DVDs a week that would mean you
get to watch around 36 DVDs for free. Renting a DVD from you local video shop ususally costs about £4,
so that would mean you would save yourself over £108.
Online Rental Free Process
- Sign up for a trial
- Diarise when you need to cancel to ensure you're not billed
- Cancel a few days before the end date
- Return
all the DVDs before cancellation unless stated. This is important, as
many firms say DVDs must be returned before cancellation is confirmed.
However return them too soon and they may just send you more, keeping
your membership active.
- Remember it is one trial per household.
No Hidden Charges
There is no trick involved in this. All you have to do is sign up for
the free trial at each website, enter your credit card details (which
are not charged until after the free trial ends). Then a few days
before the free trial ends make sure to return the DVDs and then close your account. Closing
you account is a piece of cake and usually involves putting a
tick in a box in the account details section of the website or email
the company. Just to be on the safe side ask them to send you a
confirmation. Your
account will then be closed and your credit card will not be charged.
Here is a list of the companies that offer free
trials.
