The roku box wont slow your computer down at all. it doesn't even connect to your computer. you just connect it to your tv, the power source and your ethernet cable (if you don't use the wireless connection).
what you might get a hit on is your internet connection, since you will be streaming the video. But if you've got a fast connection (like at least cable), you shouldn't have a problem.

Yes, you could, but you're going to need a TV out card or video card that supports TV out, effectively treating your TV like an additional monitor.

Likewise, if you have an Xbox 360 or something along those lines, you can do so though that, as well.

The Roku works very well though; I saw one when visiting my family and watched a few movies through it; I personally don't need it because of my 360, but I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to fill that niche.

Quick question for those who have used this. I'm considering getting one but the thing is the television I use for my movie viewing is right next to my computer. Could I use the computer and stream a movie to my TV without a major performance hit? I've got a Win xp computer running a 2.40 ghz cpu with about a gig of onboard memory. Please help me out. Thanks.

I am probably the most reluctant to jump on any new technical bandwagons-but I ordered this gem and not only was I amazed(read AMAZED) at the Roku player, but astounded by hookup time-I watched my first movie in less than 15 minutes from box to truly happy. I would have spent another 99 bucks, if I would have known how great this little black is.

this thing is the greatest, and it has upgraded to HD quality (since last june when the video was posted on youtube). roku box has become just surpassed my DVR in terms of bringing me stuff i wanna watch exactly when i wanna see it.

No, with the unlimited plan ($8.99/month), you get unlimited viewing. With the $4.99/plan, you get 2 hours per month if I remember correctly. Details are on the NetFlix website.
